Being a Professional Maternity, Newborn, Children and Cake Smash Photographer in Tampa there is a ton of things that could help you avoid a disastrous photoshoot! What are they you may wonder well lucky for you I provide my clients with a prep guide to help our session go as smooth as possible! We can not always predict how our baby will behave in a studio with flashing lights and mom jumping around like a monkey but we can do things that can help make baby feel more comfortable! After all you and baby should feel like celebrities and get a 5 star treatment!!

Let’s dive into what to prepare for when it comes to a Maternity Sessions shall we! Biggest recommendation I have to offer is bringing a strapless black and nude bra to your shoot! One that fits not a two size too small bra from highschool lol I’m guilty of that. Modern Newborn Photography has a large variety of designer gowns you may wear for your session. We ask that you please bring both nude and black undergarments to accommodate the gowns. Do not show up in a granny bra, we want those puppies to look supported! Also boy short undies are best with the gowns as some are open to expose that beautiful belly of yours. Most clients prefer to be barefoot however you’re welcome to bring nude/white heals for more of a high end look. Also please feel free to bring jewelry as long as it stays true to the style in which we are shooting for.

Biggest pet peeve for me is using your photoshoot to then address your chipped neon nail polish!haha! It’s not okay to paint your nails mid makeup session and run the risk of getting freshly painted nail polish on my $200+ gowns. Nooooooo NO! Please make time for you and your partner at least two days before your session to make sure your nails are well groomed (dada to be grease hands) and painted in a neutral tone! I can not stress that one enough haha. Also I will say be sure to groom all the unwanted hair as I may be a bit up close and personal!

Let’s talk Hair and Makeup!  You should feel glamours and nothing beats the treatment of getting our hair and makeup done professionally. Avoid hair cuts and color the week of just incase the unbearable worse thing happens to you and there is no time to fix it. Instead one-two weeks from your session date upkeep in hair color and hair cuts should be made. Dakota (Your Photographer) is also a licensed cosmetologist and knows the importance of professional makeup! Just photographs so beautifully and believe me when i say you will be left feeling so glamours you’ll be begging for all the secrets!

This basically covers the basics of what to prepare for during your Maternity session! Stay tuned for more on preparing for a Newborn session!
